Yes! We use just three ingredients to make this recipe, all of which are vegan. Just remember to serve your pears with a good plant-based ice cream!

What are Caramelized Pears Made Of?

Just three ingredients is all you need to make these easy caramelized pears!

This is your shopping list:

  • Bartlett pears
  • Coconut oil (or oil of choice)
  • Maple syrup

How to Make Caramelized Pears

Peel your firm Bartlett pears then cut in half lengthways, then slice the sides so the pears sit flat on the plate.

Next, use a melon baller to remove the seeds and a knife to remove the stems. In the meantime, preheat your oven to 350°F.

Add coconut oil to a hot pan and sear the pears face down first until golden brown. Then flip them over to sear the other side.

When both sides are pan-seared, transfer them to the oven and bake until tender the whole way through (approximately 20-30 minutes, but this all depends on your oven so keep a close eye!).

About halfway through (approximately 10-15 minutes in), drizzle a little maple syrup on the pears. Be careful not to get any on the pan as this can lead to over-caramelization, which can burn the pears.

Remove the pears from the oven and set aside to cool slightly. Serve with our vanilla ice cream!

FAQ

Can Your Store these Caramelized Pears?

Truth be told, these pears are best served immediately, hot from the pan.

However, if you have leftovers, these pears will last for up to 5 days when stored in the fridge in an airtight container.

Which Pears are Best for Cooking?

We suggest using firm Bartlett pears as they are sweet and juicy, while able to survive the cooking process without falling apart.

You can also use red or green Anjou pears for similar results, or Bosc pears, which are crisper, but a little less sweet.
