Banana Waffles

I know what you’re thinking. “I’m a busy person – how much time and effort do these Banana Waffles take to prepare?”

I must admit, when it comes to breakfast I’m usually pretty boring. I have the same thing most days without even realizing I haven’t branched out in way too long.

The issue isn’t that I don’t crave other breakfast options – it’s that I’m lazy. 😅 More than anything, my breakfast needs to be convenient. Do you know what I mean?

So, if you’re anything like me, when you think of pancakes and waffles, you automatically think, “Oh boy, this is going to take a while!”

But I’m here to tell you that you’re wrong!

How Much Time and Effort do these Banana Waffles Take to Make?

So, just how easy are these waffles? Very!

These vegan banana waffles are made with just 7 ingredients (plus salt), most of which you probably already have in your kitchen, while prep takes less than 5 minutes (plus your waffle makers’ cooking time).

This recipe is also a great base, so you can totally customize it without having to search for a specific waffle recipe you’re craving today!

Craving chocolate? 🍫 Add chocolate chips.

Craving fruit? 🍓Add berries.

Craving peanut butter? 🥜 Add peanut butter swirls.

It’s that easy.

If you don’t have a waffle iron, don’t worry. I found an inexpensive one that has worked well for me so far! Check it out here.

While you wait for delivery, you can also use this recipe as a pancake batter! The only difference is you’ll have to use about 1/2 cup less almond milk. Pretty cool, huh?

Unlike pancakes, though, waffles are all about maximizing that crispy, toast-like outer texture. These vegan banana waffles are perfectly crisp on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and not too sweet.

Are Banana Waffles Vegan?

Most waffle recipes will not be suitable for vegans as they will contain both dairy milk and eggs.

Luckily, we have bananas! 🍌 Bananas replace the eggs in this recipe, and we use almond milk instead of dairy milk.

How to Make Banana Waffles

To a blender, add the bananas, almond milk, and vanilla extract. Blend until smooth, then set aside.

To a mixing bowl, add the baking powder, salt, almond flour, and oat flour. Mix until combined. If your bananas were not very ripe (i.e. sweet) and you want to add sweetness, you can add 1/4 cup date sugar.

Pour the liquid mixture from the blender into the dry ingredients, and mix.

Then pour the melted coconut oil into the batter, and mix again.

Heat up your waffle iron, coat with a little more coconut oil, and cook the waffles until crisp!

FAQ

How are these Banana Waffles healthiir?

In addition to making them completely plant-based, We’ve made these waffles healthy by using nutritious almond flour, along with a standard gluten-free baking flour. However, you can use something like buckwheat flour or kamut flour instead if you’d rather!

We also didn’t add any sugar. Do note that the ripeness of the bananas will affect the sweetness of your waffles.

If you use ripe bananas with brown spots, the waffles will be sweeter and the flavor of the bananas will be noticeable. If you decide to use less ripe bananas without spots, the waffles won’t be as sweet and you won’t notice the taste of the bananas.

What to Serve on Banana Waffles?

You can serve these banana waffles with anything you like!

The are perfect with fresh berries and a good drizzle of maple syrup. Or you can serve them with maple syrup and some of your favorite plant-based bacon for that awesome sweet-salty combo.
